Best Coffee for Home – Gravity Coffee Guide
Best Coffee for Home – How to Choose the Perfect Beans for Your Brewing Method
If you make your coffee at home, you've probably already asked the question: which is the best coffee for home? The answer isn't that simple, because there's no single „best” bean — the perfect choice depends on what brewing device you use.
An espresso machine requires a different character than a V60 or a French press. Gravity Coffee has been roasting specialty beans for 17 years in the heart of Zselic, in central Taszár — and in this guide, we help you choose the coffee that suits you by method. (If you're not yet familiar with the specialty world, in this article, you can read what specialty coffee means exactly.)
Espresso and moka pot – which coffee is best for home?
Espresso and the moka pot work on a similar principle: hot water is forced through the coffee grounds. Yet the end result is different — and it's worth choosing different beans for each.
For espresso machines
The espresso machine makes a concentrated, layered drink — the bean needs to have a thick body and low acidity so that both the crema and the body come through. Chocolatey, nutty notes are the winners here.
Recommended products:
- Brazil Extrafino premium fine cup – from 2,850 HUF / 250 g
Low acidity, nutty-chocolatey profile, thick body. Classic espresso bean. - India Plantation Bababudan AA – from 3,650 HUF / 250 g
Full body, chocolatey notes, long finish. A bean specifically optimized for espresso. - Speciality RED 100% Arabica – from 3,150 HUF / 250 g
Everyday, balanced bean. Suitable for both espresso and filter.
The beans above are available in 250 g and 1 kg packages at the Gravity Coffee online store.
For moka pot
The moka pot produces a less concentrated espresso, but the flavors still come through intensely. The robusta content is especially useful: it adds extra body and crema.
- Brazil Extrafino premium fine cup – from 2,850 HUF / 250 g
The same chocolate-rich bean, but it also works great in a moka pot. - Speciality ORANGE 100% Robusta – from 2,500 HUF / 250 g
Powerful, high-caffeine bean — for robusta lovers. (You can read more about the difference between arabica and robusta here.)
Filter coffee and pour-over – clean, aromatic coffee at home
Filter methods (V60, Chemex, Kalita) bring out the coffee's floral and fruity notes. Here, light and medium roasts are the winners: light, clean-profile beans give the best experience.
V60 / pour-over
What to look for: high acidity, fruity or floral profile, light or medium roast. In a V60, the coffee's flavor palette comes through very precisely — it's worth experimenting with single origin beans.
- Ethiopia Washed Sidamo Gr2 – from 3,900 HUF / 250 g
Floral, bergamot, tea-like clarity. One of the most special beans in the range. - Peru Washed Tres Mosqueteros – from 3,650 HUF / 250 g
Fruity (apple, quince), bright acidity. Light, elegant filter coffee. - Costa Rica SHB – from 3,450 HUF / 250 g
Citrus, honey, elegant acidity. SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) grown at altitude.
If you're not yet familiar with the pour-over technique, whole bean coffee guide you'll find tips on grind fineness and ratios.
French press
The French press gives a thick, oily coffee — the metal filter lets the natural oils through, so the bean's character comes through intensely. Here, full-bodied, chocolatey profiles are the best.
- Guatemala SHB Teresita – from 3,450 HUF / 250 g
Full body, chocolate, long finish. The oily notes come out nicely in a French press. - Nicaragua SHG Cavallino – from 3,250 HUF / 250 g
Honey, lemon, clean, medium body. More balanced, but also great in a French press. - Uganda 18 Selected – from 2,250 HUF / 250 g
The most affordable bean in the lineup. Full-bodied, with blackcurrant notes.
Tip: For French press, it's worth grinding the beans coarser, because the metal filter doesn't filter out fine particles.
Automatic filter machine
- Colombia Supremo Rio Magdalena – from 3,450 HUF / 250 g
Caramel, nutty, balanced. It also comes through nicely in an automatic machine. - Mexico Altura Superior Chiapas Adelita – from 3,150 HUF / 250 g
Slightly spicy, medium roast. It pairs well with a stovetop filter routine.
Cold brew and iced coffee at home
Homemade cold brew
Cold steeping (cold brew) brings out the chocolatey, nutty notes and softens the acidity. Plus, a batch of cold brew concentrate keeps for days in the fridge — the easiest way to enjoy great coffee in the summer.
- Speciality GREEN 70/30 Arabica-Robusta – 2,750 Ft / from 250 g
The robusta content adds extra body even when cold. Balanced, round flavor. - Speciality BLUE 70/30 Arabica-Robusta – 2,750 Ft / from 250 g
Similar character, with a slightly softer finish. Try both and pick your favorite.
Evening coffee at home – decaf option
DECAF – specialty quality, without caffeine
Many would enjoy an evening coffee but don't dare because of the caffeine. The Gravity Coffee DECAF bean is specialty grade, decaffeinated — a full coffee experience, without caffeine.
- DECAF (caffeine-free) – from 3,900 HUF / 250 g
Suitable for all brewing methods: works great in a French press, V60, or espresso machine.
